Hugh Freeze Buyout

Auburn Acquires Hugh Freeze as Head Coach with a Lucrative Contract

Details of the Agreement

Auburn University has signed Hugh Freeze as its new head football coach in a six-year deal worth $65 million annually, as per contract details released on Friday. This agreement will commence in 2023 and expire in 2030.

Buyout Clause

Reports indicate that Freeze's contract includes a Power Five-friendly buyout clause, which allows him to terminate the agreement with a reduced financial penalty if the university receives an offer from a Power Five conference school.

Liberty Buyout

To secure Freeze's services, Auburn had to pay a buyout to his previous school, Liberty University. The value of this buyout remains undisclosed.

Compensation and Contract Duration

Over the course of his contract, Freeze will receive an average of more than $4 million per year through 2028. This agreement follows Liberty's announcement of an extension that would have paid him approximately $40 million over the same period.
