The Illinois Gymnast Pulled Ahead Of The Reigning Olympic Champion On Sunday While Lee Missed Her Signature Skill On The Uneven Bars

Kayla DiCello Wins All-Around at Winter Cup, Sunisa Lee Suffers Setback

The Illinois gymnast pulled ahead of the reigning Olympic champion on Sunday, while Lee missed her signature skill on the uneven bars.

Kayla DiCello, a freshman at University of Illinois, clinched the all-around title at the 2024 Winter Cup in Indianapolis on Sunday, surpassing Tokyo 2020 Olympic all-around champion Sunisa Lee. DiCello's impressive performance included a standout floor routine that earned her a 14.200 score, the highest score of the weekend.

Lee, who was competing in her first event since the Olympics, faced a disappointing setback when she fell on her signature uneven bars routine. The reigning Olympic champion has been facing ongoing challenges in the lead-up to Paris 2024, including injuries and personal struggles. Despite her performance at Winter Cup, Lee remains determined to overcome these obstacles and defend her Olympic title.
