Rescuers save Italian hikers, father and son stranded on cliff edge

Dramatic rescue in the Italian Dolomites

Pair airlifted to safety after becoming stranded on narrow mountain ledge

Rescue workers in Italy have successfully rescued a father and son who became stranded on a narrow cliff edge in the Dolomites mountain range. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2024.

The pair, a 45-year-old father and his seven-year-old son, were hiking in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area when they became stranded on a narrow ledge. They were unable to move forward or backward, and were forced to call for help.

Rescue workers from the nearby town of Cortina d'Ampezzo were dispatched to the scene. They were able to reach the pair and airlift them to safety.

Both the father and son were uninjured.

The rescue operation was made more difficult by the terrain and the weather conditions. The area where the pair were stranded was steep and rocky, and the weather was windy and cold.

The rescue workers were able to overcome these challenges and successfully rescue the pair.

The incident highlights the importance of being prepared when hiking in mountainous areas. Hikers should always be aware of their surroundings and be prepared for unexpected events.

They should also be sure to tell someone where they are going and when they expect to return.
